AIYANA's Favourite Cold & Flu Remedies

Last week, we talked about preventative cold and flu measures, but today we're talking about remedies.

Beekeeper's Naturals Propolis Honey Throat Spray

Propolis is loaded with immune-boosting antioxidants, vitamins and minerals! This spray can also provide relief for a scratchy, sore throat. Bonus, this immune support powerhouse is easy to travel with and keep on hand!

Electrolytes

Staying hydrated when you are sick is incredibly important! Not only is your body working hard to get better, but you may also be losing a lot of extra fluids. Replenishing with electrolytes is a great way to make sure you are properly hydrated. LMNT is one of our favourite electrolyte brands, with a variety of flavours and no sugar or added questionable ingredients. Another way to replenish your hydration levels is with bone broth, which is naturally rich in electrolytes and has the added bonus of gut-soothing collagen. You can always up the mineral levels in a glass of water with a pinch of Himalayan pink salt, lemon, and honey to taste if desired (try with warm water for a soothing morning drink).

Raw Garlic

Try incorporating raw garlic into your routine when you are sick for an extra boost of antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Raw garlic can be added to salad dressings, chopped up with a tablespoon of honey, or added at the end of cooking to preserve the beneficial properties! Tip: After chopping, let the garlic sit for at least 20 minutes to activate the antibacterial and antiviral compound called allicin!

LivOn Laboratories Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C Packets

Increasing your vitamin C intake through food sources is amazing when you are feeling under the weather, but having an easily absorbable, fat-soluble form of vitamin C that you can take with you on the go is a bonus!

Herbal Tea

We are huge fans of herbal tea, especially when we are fighting a pesky cold! Traditional Medicinals is one of our favourites. Try the Breathe Easy blend with eucalyptus and mint or the Throat Coat blend with Lemon and Echinacea!

Eucalyptus Shower

Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your shower is a great way to help clear the nasal passages as it incorporates into the shower steam for a luxurious, soothing shower experience.

Get Outside!

Try to get outside, especially when the sun is shining! Natural Vitamin D is amazing for immune health, but remember to bundle up and dress appropriately even when the sun is out, especially if you are experiencing body aches or you are fighting a fever. You can always stand by an open window in the sun inside your home to get the benefits of going outside. Supplementing with Vitamin D is also important during the colder months when natural Vitamin D production is harder to maintain.
